Accommodation in the Pyrenees

Description:

It is a country house, which was built in 1927. In 1955, Pere Colom of Casa Roi bought the house belonging to Ramona Pilar Roqué of Casa Teixidó. Nowadays, in the same building, there are three different country houses.

The Carpenter’s Workshop

This was the part of the house where the tools for repairing and sharpening the working tools were found, such as hayforks, cork rakes, milking casks, wooden stretchers, wicker baskets...

The Oven

This was where bread and cakes were baked, and the part of the house where the cambra was held during the village (a place to drink some wine from the wineskin and eat some cake or redorts).

The Dovecot

In almost all the houses in the region there was an attic –cap de casa- with round shaped windows where doves and pigeons could nest to mate and rear their brood.

Malmercat, a village on a hill, is 960 m. High and belongs to the municipality of Soriguera, within the county of El Pallars Sobirà, in the Pyrenees of Lleida. Its southern orientation makes it a sunny village, a quiet and welcoming place where all kinds of vegetables are grown, from pulses and garden produce to fruit: apples, pears from Cardós, walnuts, almonds, plums, cherries... Its parish, the church of Sant Andreu, has Romanesque origins. In the Castle there is a chapel, where no mass is held, dedicated to Sta. Eulàlia. Two kilometres away, there is a shed –­Borda Agalius-­ where the horse riding excursions set off.

Four kilometres, find the Borda de Roi, where you will be able to experience the life of a farmer: feed the cattle and calves as well as helping in the orchard and doing some work in the fields.

The recovery of ancient riding ways, called camins de ferradura, head to the neighbouring villages: Tornafort, Puigforniu, Saverneda, Sort, hermitage of Arboló, Arcalís, Baro, Gerri de la Sal...

Particular terrain features and landmarks: the Cave of the Moor, the Cave of the Bear, the Hole of the Dragon. Walk around the pine-tree forests around to find mushrooms such as orange-green milk caps, fairy-ring mushrooms, grey knights, ivory woodwaxes...

You may enjoy all adventure sports from the waters in the river La Noguera Pallaresa, to the ski resorts in  Port-Ainé (25 km away), or in Espot  (40 km away) or Baquèira Beret (50 km away), including the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and Alt Pirineu Natural Park .
